10 things A Mamian Can Relate To

I failed my first attempt to admission in The Mama Parsi Girls’ Secondary School. I was very young and wanted an admission in the first grade. My mother is a mamian and wanted to see me in that white uniform since the beginning. Eventually, I made her proud after 5 years and got an admission in grade 6. Here are somethings I can relate to after spending at least 4 years in the Mama school. I am sure other mamians can relate to it as well.

1. GOLDEN STAIRS

The students weren’t allowed to use the golden stairs. Since rules are made to be broken, I made sure I use the golden stairs whenever I could.

2. NEWS PAPER DRIVE

We took it seriously! Believe me, Very seriously. A newspaper wasn’t just a piece of paper when you needed to win points.

3. ELECTIONS

We took the Elections Very seriously as well. PTI vs PMLN and Junoon vs Inqilab aren’t the real competitors. The matriculation system VS the Cambridge section was the real deal.

4. House Test

Back then, Monday wasn’t the most hated. It was Thursday which was a curse. First thing in the morning, the first period, a 25 mark house test. I never took them seriously though.

5. MINUS MARKS

The teachers took them very seriously. It’s like they distributed Minus marks. The teacher would be like, “Did you breathe? Here minus 5.”

6. NO MEHENDI

I am not even kidding I was the only girl in my Khandan and my friends circle who had no mehendi on Eid. I was also the only girl who would have mehendi applied in summer vacations because I couldn’t apply it on Eid.

7. THE SCHOOL IS BUILT OVER A GRAVEYARD

I think every Desi student can relate to this. So I am just gonna leave it here.

8. CLEANLINESS TEST

I don’t know if I should call it a blessing or a curse.I loved the 50/50 on my report card but If luck didn’t work, I hated being suspended. I think it time every girl admits that they were suspended atleast once. It’s shameful, but it’s true.

9. NAUVROZ

Asking your Muslim friends, “tum teeka lagaogi?” and then shamelessly enjoying the toffee they would give at the end of the tour of a beautifully decorated table. I always had my eyes on the meethai.

10. THE SCHOOL IS A JOKE

There are so many details, events and memories I can add to the list. Girls guide, Sports Day, Scrabble, Elocution, aloo ka samosa and many more. I’ll just end it with my favorite line from the school song, WE’RE A SCHOOL OF HAPPY CHILDREN.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY THE MAMA PARSI GIRLS’ SECONDARY SCHOOL
